CFUW-Stratford Club will host a fundraising art series: Scenic Views- A Selective Survey of Stage Design presented by Joseph Hisey and Bob Phillips.  Joseph Hisey teaches at Fanshawe College and conducts cultural tours including an upcoming visit to the mansions of Newport, Rhode Island. Bob Phillips is an arts educator and consultant, with over thirty-five years experience teaching for the Peel District School Board, Nippising University , Sheridan College, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education – University of Toronto, and the Art Gallery of Ontario. This three-part series of interactive, illustrated talks will examine the spectacle of scenic, costume, and lighting design for the stage. Significant examples of theatre architecture and scenography will include its origins in ancient Greece; Medieval religious pageantry; Renaissance, Elizabethan and Baroque operas and dramas; the 19th-century turn to realism and naturalism; and theatrical experiments and innovations of the 20th and early 21st centuries. These shared insights and stories about the visual history of production design may just deepen your understanding and appreciation of that next theatre experience. The presentations will take place on Fridays October 16, 23 and 30 at the River Garden Residence, 10 Romeo Street in Stratford commencing at 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  All profits from the series go to the CFUW-Scholarship fund for local post secondary school scholarships. The tickets for the complete series are $50 and are available at Blowes Stationery or by contacting CFUW-Stratford  at 519-273-7727 or 271-7062.  Single tickets are also available at the door for $20 each.
